I have been passionate about health, fitness, and strength my entire life. I believe that overall well-being extends beyond muscle definition and outward appearance. Being strong internally is imperative. This industry is in my heart, and I have dedicated my life to helping my clients achieve their goals.
I've been involved in the fitness industry for over 25 years. I initially became certified in personal training to train clients part time, while my full time job was an Account Executive in the stressful sales/marketing environment. I've always been an avid runner, weight trainer, and mixed martial arts enthusiast. Exercise made me feel strong, healthy and peaceful, but I had never thought to pursue it as a full time career.
When my mom passed away from complications with Diabetes, I re-evaluated my own life and turned my passion for health and fitness into a career that awarded me the opportunity to make a difference in someone's life. I knew it was in my heart to help people get healthy, stay motivated, and turn their lifestyles around so they felt better overall - inside and out. I went back to school and studied Exercise Physiology which included Anatomy and Physiology 1 & 2, Psychology, Nutrition and completed additional personal training certifications. It was then, I started my own training company - Misty Jaymes Fitness. My logo, the dragonfly, is in honor of my mother. She loved their grace and they signify "transformation". My last name is in honor of my father. My parents mean so much to me and have taught me to follow my dreams with integrity and passion, and they are a part of what I strive to accomplish every day.
It takes an enormous amount of discipline and determination to transform your life, and you, as a client, have to be just as responsible and committed as I am in achieving the results you desire. I do not believe in fad or crash diets or what I call "drive thru personal training". I firmly believe that programs must be personalized and changed often in order to keep motivation levels high. My priority is that your exercise program will not only strengthen you physically, but also how you feel inside emotionally and mentally. With outer strength, many things are possible. With inner strength, ANYTHING is possible.
In 2020, after an already unforgettable year for everyone, I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Hearing “You have cancer” was lifechanging news, but I knew I had to fight. I had a lumpectomy, 21 rounds of radiation, and hormone therapy. Cancer treatment is no joke. Staying positive, working out regularly and keeping perspective can be very challenging. I fell into a depression that was very unfamiliar to me. There were days I had to be a trainer to MYSELF, and coach myself the same way I do my clients. I know, for a fact, that forcing myself to exercise even when I felt I couldn’t, gave me the tenacity to dig my way back to finding the positive in an unfair situation. In March of 2021, I earned my certification as a Cancer Exercise Specialist, and in May, my Advanced Cancer Exercise Specialist certification.
Things we can’t control will get thrown at us. What we CAN control is how we react. Exercise is as much of an immensely powerful tool for your emotional health as it is for your physical health. Making time for yourself and making exercise a priority are the greatest gifts.
